A choke is simply an inductor with a magnetic core that prevents sudden changes in the electric current. It can also be used to limit alternating current without the power losses that would occur if the limiting element were a resistance.

Line reactors are devices dedicated to operation in the supply circuits of converters, particularly in drive systems. A common feature of electrical energy conversion by means of power electronic devices is the distortion of the current from a sinusoidal waveform, together with frequent switching of circuits.
This gives rise to a number of phenomena and requirements:
- commutation overvoltages on the inductances of the associated transformer,
- generation of higher current harmonics,
- generation of electromagnetic interference,
- the need to limit the rate of current rise in order to protect semiconductor structures,
- the need to limit starting power.
Breve-Tufvassons offers two ranges of line reactors with a nominal voltage drop of 4% for 3-phase 400V and 1-phase 230V.
The reactors are built on cores assembled from EI and 3UI laminations, with an air gap, and with copper windings wound on one-piece insulating formers.
Double vacuum impregnation provides high mechanical strength and climatic protection.
The reactors are manufactured to degree of protection IP00 and thermal insulation class ta40B or ta40F. Their maximum circuit voltage is 750V.
The Breve range includes single-phase line reactors D1N and three-phase line reactors D3N.
