Sprawność jest różna ze względu na moc znamionową transformatora i zawiera się w granicach ok. 0,3-0,4 dla transformatorów o mocy pojedynczych VA, aż do ok. 0,99 dla transformatorów energetycznych rzędu MVA.

Sprawność pojedynczego transformatora zależy również w sposób nieliniowy od prądu obciążenia strony wtórnej. Transformatory projektuje się tak, by ich największa sprawność przypadała dla ok. połowy wartości prądu znamionowego.
